IEEE Consumer Communications & Networking Conference

Special Session on Quality of Experience (QoE) for Multimedia Communications

Nowadays, consumer communications and networking applications face an evolving demand on quality from a user experience perspective. In addition to traditional Quality of Service (QoS), user experience, based on factors such as personalization, privacy considerations, user engagement, and context-based communication, becomes critical for multimedia communications.

This requires knowledge not only of audio/video compression and protocol design, but also knowledge of human and computer/device interaction, cognitive psychology, and sociology. The goal of this special session is to provide a platform for researchers and application developers to present their ideas and share experiences on tackling highly challenging tasks on Quality of Experience (QoE) over multimedia communications.

Topic of interests including but not limited to:

o Assessment of Quality of Experience
o Standardization in multimedia communication quality assessment
o Subjective and objective assessment methodologies for multimedia communications
o Visual and auditory user experience assessment and modeling
o Emerging applications and tools for QoE assessment
o Psychological and sociological dimension of QoE
o Cognitive psychological user experience modeling and measurement
o QoE of multimedia communications in social networks
o QoE of context-based communications
o Personalized multimedia communications
o Privacy and security considerations of QoE
o QoE of multimedia communications in virtual, augmented and mixed realities
o User Interface (UI) and Human-Computer/device Interaction (HCI) for multimedia communications
o QoE of multimedia communication services and applications
